Who is responsible for Westscheme?

The Westscheme Trustee (Westscheme Pty Ltd) is responsible for Westscheme.  The Directors of Westscheme Pty Ltd jointly hold all the company’s issued shares for the benefit of Westscheme members, so the Trustee is owned by Westscheme members.

Each sponsor appoints three voting directors to the Westscheme Trustee Board.

The Trustee Board Directors are:

 

Joseph Boros FCPA, FAICD is an experienced business professional, best known for his transformation of Bunnings Buildings Supplies into one of Australia’s most successful hardware retailers.  He is a former Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia and has had direct involvement in superannuation throughout his 40 year career.

 

Krystyna Hassall BLaw, Cert. Super. Mgmt. has been a Westscheme Trustee Director since 1997 and has had direct involvement in superannuation for over 25 years.  Her experience includes the formulation of Government policy on superannuation, the drafting of Superannuation Industry Supervision (SIS) legislation and relevant Trust Law. Mrs Hassall is a current member, and former Chairperson of the Association of Super Funds of Australia’s (ASFA) Best Practice Committee, and is a member of the ASFA State Executive Committee for Western Australia. She is also a risk management consultant.




Simone McGurk BA is an industrial relations professional with over 20 years experience in the Australian union movement.  Currently the Secretary of UnionsWA, Simone was one of the first women to be elected as an office bearer for the Australian Manufacturing Workers’ Union.   Simone brings to Westscheme a breadth of experience gained from representing a range of different industries.

 

Ross McLean AM BEc has senior level experience in a wide range of business, community and charitable organisations.  After commencing his working life at the Reserve Bank of Australia he successfully held positions on a wide range of boards and committees; these include Deputy Chief Executive of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australia, member of the WA State Government Economic Strategies Council, and as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, to name just a few.


 

Frank Sciarrone BBus (Econ. & Fin.) has over 24 years extensive experience within the Australian financial services industry. He has held senior management positions with Australian and multi-national organisations in both the private client and funds management industries. Mr Sciarrone has been a Westscheme Trustee Director since November 2000.

 

Jeff Williams Cert. Elec. Eng. GAICD is an industrial relations specialist with over 30 years experience. He has successfully held various executive roles at the Australian Services Union (ASU), and is currently the Industry Development Officer for Unions WA.  Mr Williams’ qualifications and experience have been gained through a career in technical and engineering industries, and through further education in management and environmental studies.  


 

An independent Director, Paul Schapper, chairs The Trustee Board. 

Paul Schapper BSc, BEc, PhD is an economist and specialist in organisational governance.  An experienced Chairperson, his specialist knowledge has been gained from senior level engagements in Australia and around the world in a career spanning over 30 years.  Dr Schapper advises clients such as the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and a number of national government agencies.

In every decision, all directors are guided by the sole principle of serving the best financial interests of members while complying with all applicable legislation. 

 

The Chief Executive

Howard Rosario BComm, FCA, FASFA, FAICD is the Chief Executive of Westscheme.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia. 

Mr Rosario trained as an auditor and worked in financial and secretarial administration prior to his management career.  He has been involved in superannuation since September 1989.  He is the current Chairman of the Fund Executives Association Limited (FEAL), an organisation committed to the professional development of Australian superannuation industry executives.
