Westscheme respects your Privacy
Protecting your personal information has always been important to Westscheme. It is also a legal requirement for Westscheme to handle you personal information in accordance with a set of National Privacy Principles contained in the National Privacy Act 1988.
At Westscheme, we only collect and use the information that is necessary to administer your account and keep you up-to-date with opportunities available to you as a fund member. If you do not wish to receive such information, please let us know.
The personal information collected by Westscheme from you and through your employer, includes your contact details, date of birth and Tax File Number (if you have chosen to quote it). Note; while it is not compulsory to quote your Tax File Number, if you don't you may have to pay additional tax). Over time, this will be supplemented with financial and other information necessary to administer your fund membership. Without this information Westscheme will be unable to administer your account properly.
You will also be asked to provide proof of identity documents when you claim your superannuation from us. The requirement for this is a Federal Government law that Westscheme must comply with. These documents also will be retained and used by us in strict confidence.
The Westscheme Trustee may disclose your personal information to third parties who are only authorised to use your personal information under the strictest confidence. Your personal information will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose without your consent, except where required by law.
The third parties which Westscheme usually discloses your personal information to include:
- the Police
- the Australian Taxation Office (ATO)
- the Child Support Agency
-the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority(APRA)
- the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)
- the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC)
In some cases the law may also require Westscheme to disclose information to other people or organisations.
As a member of Westscheme, you may ask to see the information we hold about you and have it corrected if required.
Information we collect from the web
The information that we will collect about you will depend on how you use the facilities offered by the Westscheme web site.
Unsecured area
If you visit an 'unsecured' area of the Westscheme web site (ie. an area where you are not required to log on) to read, browse or download information, our system will record the date and time of your visit to the site, the pages viewed, the operating system in use and any information downloaded. Our systems will not record any personally identifiable information.
Secured area
If you visit the 'secured' area of the Westscheme web site (ie. the area where members can log in using a PIN to gain access to their account balance and update personal details) our system will be able to record the date and time of your visit, the details viewed and information that was updated on your membership account.
The information that we collect does allow us to identify you personally and is used in aggregated form in order to give Westscheme an idea of the volume of visits to the 'Member Area' of the web site. We use that information to gauge the effectiveness of the Westscheme web site and to assess ideas that could make the Westscheme web site more useful to our members.
The Westscheme web site also contains links to the web sites of third party providers of goods and services. If you have accessed third party web sites through the Westscheme web site and if those third parties collect information about you, Westscheme may also collect or have access to that information as part of our arrangements with those third parties. Third party web sites should contain their own privacy statements and those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices.
Cookies
A 'cookie' is a small text file placed on a computer by a web server. A cookie allows information to be retrieved from the computer by a web page server. These cookies may be permanently stored on a computer or are temporary session cookies. They are used for a variety of purposes, including security and personalisation of services. They are frequently used on web sites and you can choose if and how a cookie will be accepted by configuring your preferences and options in your browser.
The Westscheme web site uses cookies. SuperSite™ provides secure services and uses temporary session cookies. If your browser is configured to reject all cookies, you will be unable to use SuperSite™.
How we handle e-mail
We will preserve the content of any e-mail that you send us, if we believe that we have a legal requirement to do so. Your e-mail message content may be monitored for security issues, including where e-mail abuse is suspected, by our Fund employees. Our response to you may be monitored for quality assurance issues.
We may use your information to tell you about products and services offered to Westscheme members by other companies
Your information may be used by Westscheme to enable us to inform you about new and existing products and services that will enhance our relationship with you. If you provide us with your address or e-mail address, we may use it to send our regular communications such as updates on new and existing products and services. If you do not wish to receive any information about the services and products offered by other companies, or if you previously expressed a preference and now wish to change it, call Westscheme on (08) 9278 7070 or 1800 198 327.
Security on our system
Westscheme takes reasonable steps to preserve the security of personal information in accordance with this Privacy Statement. All client information is protected from unauthorised access through the use of secure passwords, user log ons or other security procedures. Developments in security and encryption technology will be reviewed regularly. Our staff are trained to treat member information with the utmost confidentiality.
